I just had the Hebert family in for a photo shoot in our new studio and we had such a great time. They are such a great family and I can’t wait to post some more photos from our time together.

This a Sophie. I think she is one of the sweetest little girls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!

Kingdom Undone

I have had the wonderful pleasure of getting to know and working with Jeremiah and Vanessa Gamble over the past couple of months. They are the creators of Theatre for the Thirsty. There current show is called Kingdom Undone which is a beautiful retelling of the Passion narrative. It is the story of Jesus in the days leading up to the crucifixion but rather than the story following Jesus like you might suspect it actually follows the story of Judas Iscariot. Its an incredible story that they tell very beautifully.

About a month ago I got together with a few members of the cast to work on the photo that would become their main promotional photo (the picture below). It was so fun working together with such great artists. I really have come to love the Gambles and what they do. Please take the time to go and see this production over the next few weeks. You will not be disappointed. I got to see it a couple of nights ago while shooting production photos and I was blown away by it simplicity and its beauty. You will love it!

These guys were so much fun to shoot with! We had a wonderful time enjoying the unusually warm spring here is MN. We walked around St. Anthony Main for a good part of the afternoon laughing and enjoying our time. I can not wait for their wedding this fall. I know its going to be absolutely gorgeous. Having spent this day with them makes me that much more excited for their wedding because I feel like I know them now. Its so much fun becoming friends with my clients. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Congrats again, Troy and Traci! Cant wait for your big day. Thanks for letting me be a part of it!

Spending time with friends that I haven’t seen in a long time always brings a smile to my face. Nick and I enjoyed the beautiful spring weather at Pracna On Main. It was a perfect afternoon: good friend, good conversation, and good drink. What more could you ask for?

Nick encourages me all the time to think deeply and critically. Not only do we talk about deep and wonderful things but we also talk about the mundane. That might seem simple but its not everyone that you feel comfortable enough with to just sit and talk about the ordinary things with.

Nick is also the proud new father of the beautiful little Solace. Congrats to you my dear friend. I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Up Close and Personal

I had a conversation with a friend tonight that was pretty interesting. He asked me what photograph people are most uncomfortable with having taken of themselves. The answer came quickly- anything close. As a photographer it is not uncommon to have people I’m photographing go from fun and energetic to apprehensive and pensive the second I get close for a tight shot. This isn’t really a surprise to anyone, is it? We all have personal bubbles that we don’t want popped. I think that there could also be the realization that the closer the photo is taken the closer my blemishes and imperfections are to the viewing eye.

In a very real way they are right.

But thats ok. In fact its better than ok. No one is perfect. We all have blemishes. We all have imperfections. I think there is an element of self awareness and self esteem that is exhibited by a person who lets a photographer document them in all of their ‘humanness’. Imperfections and the like are a real part of who we are- our uniqueness.

These photographs are the start of a new series I am calling, “Human”. Photos about us. Photos about people. Photos about faces. Thanks to Jeremy and Matt for being the first to have all of their wonderful imperfections put on display.

Welcome to the new Magno Photography blog.

This is where I will be discussing all things photography, art, and life. I will also be displaying more of my work here on a day to day to basis rather than the occasional portfolio updates I do on my main website, magnophotography.com. I am really looking forward to this new endeavor of sharing my work and thoughts here.
